WILLCOX — This year, the Willcox Little League received a year’s worth of jerseys from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Jennifer Wilson, president of the Willcox Little League, told the Range News that the option to apply for the Diamondbacks program had been available before. However, this year the league was able to get everything submitted in time and has been awarded by the Diamondbacks.
According to Wilson, Willcox has an average total of 22 teams with roughly 12 players on each team, making for a hefty amount of funding.
“As a league, (jerseys) are our number one expense,” Wilson said. “It’s part of our enrollment fee. But because we didn’t have to buy them this year, we can use that money and work toward buying a new pitching machine and equipment shed for the girls. The money we ended up saving, we’re trying to put it back into the community.”
