Editor: My wife and I were shocked Friday when we learned that Dr. Bushman had been dismissed from the Sulphur Springs Medical Clinic.

Dr. Bushman has been our primary care physician for more than 20 years. I credit Dr. Bushman with saving my life in 1996. Several days after extensive surgery on my badly torn left knee, I developed blood clots in my lungs. I woke up with severe pain in my chest and back. Thinking it may be a heart attack, my wife took me to the emergency room at NCCH.

After explaining my systems to the E.R. doctor, he left to set up tests for my liver, kidneys, gall bladder and no telling what else. Someone must have told Dr. Bushman I was in the ER because he came in and asked, "Jim, what's going on?" I told him how I felt. He turned to the nurses and told them, "Get this man on an ambulance to TMC right now; he has blood clots in his lungs."

At TMC, I spent 10 days in intensive care and a couple of months at home on blood thinner with home-care monitoring.

Linda had to go to the NCCH ER with severe pain in her side and back. The ER doctor admitted her to a room to have several tests run. Dr. Bushman ended up telling the ER doctor that she needed a CT scan as it sounded like kidney stones — she did — and had to be transported to Tucson as they were too large to handle at Willcox.

Dr. Bushman has taken very good care of both of us with our health issues for several years. Linda and I consider him an excellent doctor and a good friend.

I am sure my wife and I are not the only ones in the area that feel as we do regarding Dr. Bushman.

Because of Dr. Bushman's dismissal, my wife and I no longer have a primary care doctor, which means we have no way to have our prescriptions renewed. We have no idea how long it will be until we can find another primary care physician that we can feel comfortable and satisfied with.

We are sure there are numerous families and individuals in Willcox and surrounding area that are in the same situation.

Because Dr. Bushman is known to be a man with honesty and integrity, we believe that the dismissal of Dr. Bushman was done for personal or vindictive reason, or both.
