Lucie I. Mills


Lucie I. Mills, a former resident of Willcox, died May 25, 2019, in Truth or Consequences, N.M., at the age of 96. Lucie was born in Tucson on April 17, 1923, to William Alonzo Smith and Lucy Laura Boone Smith.

She was a graduate of Tucson High School, was a bookkeeper for Martin Drugs in Tucson for 15 years and worked at the University of Arizona.

In 1964, she moved to Willcox, where she was a legal secretary for Stuart Willoughby Law Firm and eventually Willoughby, Evans, Allred and Farnsworth law firm, retiring in 1998.

Lucie had many hobbies, including playing cards such as solitaire and rummy. She enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and was a master at crocheting. She loved to drink her Pepsi.

Lucie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On Oct. 14, 1944, in Tucson, she married Arthur LeLand Mills, who preceded her in death in 1999.

She is survived by: her sons, Kenneth E. Mills, of Truth or Consequences, and Michael L. (Teresa) Mills, of Willcox; and her grandchildren, whom she loved very much, Jason Mills, Brian (Amber) Mills and Marcia (Jordan) Landwerlen; and her six great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, besides her husband, Arthur, were: her son, Ronald Arthur Mills; her sisters, Virginia “Tony” Sligh and Margaret “Peggy” Mittelstaedt; and her brothers, William “Dick” Smith, Robert “Bob” Smith, Arthur Smith and Lancelot Smith.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Willcox Chapel. Viewing will be in the Relief Society beginning at 10 a.m. Graveside dedication will be at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson.
