RAD sponsors’ reception Tues.
Rex Allen Days, Inc. is inviting all past, continuing and potential sponsors for this year’s event to a reception at Valley TeleCom Group’s community room (752 E. Maley Street in Willcox) on Tuesday, March 19. Individuals, groups (civic service, veteran, fraternal and student organizations) and businesses are encouraged to attend to learn more about plans for this year’s Rex Allen Days and sponsorship opportunities.
The reception will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Board members and committee chairmen will be present to discuss particular aspects of the event and to answer questions. Refreshments will be served.
Also, at the meeting RAD, Inc. will be unveiling an awesome sponsorship reward! Every $100 donated to Rex Allen Days (individuals willing to donate at least $100 will also qualify) will receive one entry to win a pair of Country Music Association Music Festival four-day tickets, with access to the all-star nightly concerts at LP Field, plus multiple daytime stages and activities.This is the ULTIMATE COUNTRY MUSIC FAN EXPERIENCE in the heart of Downtown Nashville. Medical field scholarships
Northern Cochise Community Hospital is offering scholarships to high school seniors who are contemplating a career in the many medical disciplines. Applications are available at the hospital or from your counselor.

Mental Health First Aid class
Mental Health First Aid is a new, evidence-based interactive 12-hour course designed to teach people a five-step process to assess a situation, select and implement appropriate interventions and help a person in crisis or who may be developing the signs and symptoms of mental illness. The groundbreaking training equips people to provide initial help until appropriate professional, peer or family support can be engaged. Participants also learn about risk factors and warning signs of specific illnesses such as anxiety, depression, psychosis and addiction.
Mental Health First Aid training will be offered free of charge on Friday, March 29 and Friday, April 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Cochise College Benson Center, 1025 State Route 90.
There is no cost for this training,and it is sponsored by Cenpatico, SEACRS, Cochise College Benson Center and CLL.

Willcox Relay for Life April 12
Relay For Life of Willcox will be held from 6 p.m., on Friday, April 12, to 7 a.m., on Saturday, April 13 at Willcox High School, 480 N. Bisbee Avenue. Opening Ceremonies will be at 6 p.m.

Farmers market business plans
Business Planning for Farmers Market Vendors is a free four-hour class at Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus, to be held on Wednesday, March 20, 8:30 a.m. To 12:30 p.m. Registration by March 18 required.
Business planning is important for farmers market vendors of all shapes and sizes, from small-scale backyard growers to established farmers and ranchers.
You will learn how to develop your business goals and objectives, define your audience/customers, determine marketing/sales strategies, explain how your products are unique and implement a financial management system.
A well-written and thoughtful business plan can help you understand your current productivity, or help you expand your operation (including successfully applying for loans).
This FREE workshop will be taught by the Cochise College Small Business Development Center and is sponsored by Baja Arizona Sustainable Agriculture.

Stewart FCE scholarships
Stewart Family & Community Education will be giving two $500 scholarships in their Hazel Wilson Scholarship program this year. Scholarship applications are available at the public library, at the high school counselors’ office and at the FFA office or by calling 384-4161.
To qualify for a scholarship, an applicant must be a graduating senior or recent graduate of an area school and must have a background in 4-H and/or FFA. In addition the applicant must be enrolling in a four-year college or university, junior college or trade school. The applications are due in by April 15 and should be mailed to: Stewart FCE, 411 N Bowie Ave, Willcox, AZ 85643.
All Dessert Night March 23
The third annual All Dessert Night, sponsored by the Sulphur Springs Valley Historical Society, will be held Saturday, March 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Willcox Community Center on Stewart Street.
In addition to the all-you-can-eat homemade desserts, diabetic and gluten-free goodies will also be provided. EuroFresh Farms will also be there to give away free tomatoes!
Guests will be entertained by live music. There will be door prizes, the silent auction will be bigger and better this year and we plan to put on a rare attraction — a cakewalk.
Tickets are $6 for Historical Society members or $8 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased from any Historical Society member or at the door. All proceeds will be used to continue our rewiring, lighting and remodeling project for the Toggery building research library and the Chiricahua Regional Museum.

Gale Barton scholarship
American Legion Tenley Lopez Post 20 in Willcox sponsors the “Gale Barton Memorial Scholarship.”
All graduating seniors from our area high schools or graduating seniors participating in a home school program are eligible to participate in the “Gale Barton Memorial Scholarship” program.
This program is intended to assist those intending to attend a four-year college/university program, those intending to attend a community college to pursue an Associate Degree, and also those students planning to attend a trade school.
You may obtain an application and information on submitting your application at the counseling office of our area high schools, or by contacting Don Ulses at (520) 766-0526. Submission deadline is Friday, April 5.
Artist reception today at NCCH
The Willcox Art League will begin a show of works by Denise Eggman of Cochise on Wednesday, March 13 at the Northern Cochise Community Hospital. She is the March artist of the month. The reception will be at 1:30 p.m. on March 13, and the show will run until April 10.
February artist of the month Neils De Kok will continue his show until March 15 at Bucko’s on Railroad Avenue (around corner from Big Tex Restaurant).
Calling artists of all ages! Saturday, March 30, TRUST Art & Design will present a local art showcase at Coronado Vineyards, 2909 E. Country Club Dr., Willcox.

The deadline for submissions is Sunday, March 10. If the artist’s work is selected or if TRUST, the artist will be contacted with more details on the submission process.

Driver safety program
The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is setting up its spring schedule for the AARP Driver Safety Program (formerly AARP55 Alive/Mature Driving) for the Willcox, Benson and Pearce/Sunsites areas.
This course is designed for drivers 50 years of age or older, but anyone may attend, and covers all aspects of the effects of aging as it relates to driving and how to compensate for these changes.
Some auto insurance companies, but not all, give a discount for attending this course.

Wine seminar for literacy
Join the Cochise Stronghold Lions Club on Sunday, March 24, from 3 until 5 p.m. at Stronghold Center, 571 Frontage Road, Sunsites for a wine seminar. Wines from Golden Rule Vineyards, Zarpara Vineyard, and Sand Reckoner Vineyards will be featured.
Rob Hammelman, an internationally trained wine maker and current co-owner and vintner of Sand Reckoner Vineyards, will present information on how to approach wine tasting and how to identify wine characteristics you enjoy, and characteristics of quality wines including wines produced in our local area. Participants will be able to taste the wines and purchase their favorites.

Senior lecture on home safety
The Senior Enrichment Center at Northern Cochise Community Hospital is proud to present a lecture on Home and Personal Safety. The lecture will be held at the Senior Enrichment Center, located at 903 N. Bowie in Willcox (in the building across the street from Pizza Hut) on March 15, from 11 a.m. to noon. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
