The Willcox Art League Artist of the Month for January is Sylvia Obert-Turner.  Sylvia has traveled extensively and moved to Cochise, Ariz. in 1979.  She taught art for Cochise College for 10 years, and now teaches privately in Sunsites.  Sylvia has also taught summer workshops in Cloudcroft, N.M., and at Elderhostel in Silver City, N.M.

Sylvia's favorite subjects to paint are flowers, landscapes and antique objects.  Her interest in archeological artifacts, other cultures and nostalgia are evident, as well as her love of Arizona and the Southwest. Sylvia paints in oils and works in pastels.  She is partial to "earth pigments" found near old mining sites.

Sylvia and her crew, the Painting Plus Company, were responsible for many murals around Willcox and the state.  Some sites to see them are the Rex Allen Museum, North Cochise Community Hospital, the Chamber building, and the Public Library.

The paintings and pastels can be seen at Northern Cochise Community Hospital lobby next to the hospital entrance to the Nursing Home through the months of January and February and until March 13.
