Littered city

Published: Wednesday, September 8, 2010 2:57 PM CDT
Looking around our town, I see that much of the area within the town itself is littered with weeds, old cars, broken down buildings, and other such eye sores. I have had friends from other states that have said that Willcox is in a state of disrepair.

A town of approximately 3,800 people (I believe) has a mayor, council members, and a city manager making thousands of dollars while our town looks disgraceful. We seem to have more leaders than we need and not enough workers getting the job done. If the owner of the property doesn't clean it up, the City should then charge the owner for it, plus a fine.

" How about the city doing ITS job of cleanup as well? With all the rain we've had lately weeds in our alley has grown to tree size. Finally hired somebody to get them out of there. Should NOT have had to do that. Alleys behind homes are public property that the city is responsible for maintaining. But they are not doing their job. If public property througout the town is maintained properly than citizens will follow that practice by maintaining their own property. Set an example Willcox council! Are you not proud of our town? " As you stated in your "opinion" our little town looks disgraceful. Please, stop and realize that in these economic times business is down in this town.A lot of the owners are having to do the work ( to keep businesses afloat) because they had to lay off employees. With business being down there are no funds or time to do repairs on buildings. I suggest if you want a beautiful town to look at either roll up your sleeves, or fork over the money needed. Lets get real..this is the real world. "

" On September 24, City clean up day, I hope to see all the complainers out cleaning up their lots and hauling it to the dump instead of depending on the CIty to clean their garbage up.

See you there, Mr. Guskjolen, helping some of the elderly! "

" The City of Willcox needs to demolish the abandoned hotels on Haskell Avenue. They are an eyesore for anyone entering town. In addition they provide a home for rats and other critters. "

" Perhaps, if the city hired regular people who live here in this town, and not the orange jump suited prisoners to do all of the work, maybe things could get done. Until then, you will get work done by inmates getting paid pennies per hour, and you will continue to get pennies per hour worth of work out of them. On that note, GET THE PRISONERS OUT OF THE SCHOOLS! My daughters attend a school littered with prisoners, people who have already proven they are not fit for society are milling about with the children at our schools. DISGUSTING! "
