59th ANNUAL REX ALLEN DAYS
The first of October is quickly approaching, and that means another Rex Allen Days is just around the corner. This year's celebration promises to be one of the best.
Rex Allen Jr's guests for his two concerts are Johnny Western, always a favorite, Jimmy Fortune of the Statler Brothers, Pedro Gonzales-Gonzales Jr. Cody and Logan Allen and making her Rex Allen Days debut is Bonita's daughter Maddie. The concerts in recent years have been pretty much sellouts and this year will be no exception, so get your tickets early.
The entertainment along Historic Railroad Avenue is the all new "The 12th Annual Western Music, Film, Cowboy Poetry & Wild West Entertainment Festival" featuring: Tom Hyatt & the Sundown Riders, Rollie Stevens, Dr. Buck Montgomery "Hollywood Stuntman" & His "Sidekicks, Stunts & Six Gun Show", Tombstone Tony (WWPAS Gun Spinning Reserve Champion), Hollywood Trick Horses, Lee Anderson (Cowboy Historian and Poet) and several Hollywood Look-a-Likes (e.g. Roy Rogers, John Wayne, Paladin). Down town entertainment will run Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday after the Parade till 5 p.m. Rex Jr. will have his Celebrity Panel Discussion Friday 4 p.m. There will be Artisans, vendors, Festival Food and Much, Much More.
There will also be several Hollywood Celebrities; Peter Brown, Don Collier, Dean Smith, Jamie Nudie, Julie Ream, Cheryl Rogers, Jon Locke, Jeff Connors, of rifleman fame and Dan Haggerty will all be around to sign autographs and participate in a Celebrity Panel Discussion on Saturday.
The 2nd annual "Western Legends Awards" along with a Wine & Cheese Reception will be Friday Night at the Willcox Community Center starting at 6:30 p.m. This year's recipients will be Johnny Western, Dean Smith, Marty Robbins and "Cactus Mack". Your admission to this event will be a 2011 membership to the Rex Allen Museum.
Other happenings during the week end will be a Grand Canyon sanctioned Rodeo at Quail Park, a Carnival, vendors and a Car Show in Keiller Park, a softball tournament, Tractor Pulls, Golf Tournament and Turtle Races.
A new feature of this year's festivity will be a "Free Shuttle Service" that will run to all of the events and the restaurants, hotels and RV parks. This is something new this year and we hope it will make things even more enjoyable for everyone. Hope to see you all this October.
Also there will be a ribbon cutting to open a newly remodeled portion of the Rex Allen Museum on Friday, Oct. 1.
