Community Briefing

Last Wednesday at 7:41 p.m., a two-vehicle collision on westbound I-10, milepost 318, spilled over into eastbound I-10, involving three more vehicles, including this 18-wheeler. Several injuries were reported and 200 gallons of diesel were spilled, said Cmdr. A.V. Reid of Willcox Rural Fire, who was responsible for the diesel clean-up. (Ainslee S. Wittig/ARN)

ELFRIDA

OPENING DAY: Elfrida Art Center, Inc. is directed by Elizabeth Shuler-Pointer, of ES Arts. It is located on the corner of Aspen and Thistle (10336 Aspen St.) in Elfrida.

The center has been in operation since 2005 and offers classes for youth (ages 7-12), teens and adults. All lessons for youth are free. Adult students may, but are not required to, offer monetary donations, which go toward utility payments for the center.

Opening Day is Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. Classes are every Saturday: Advanced Class meets 10 a.m. to noon and the Basic Class meets from 1 to 3 p.m.


Fall Festival is Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10. Both classes will meet at the Elfrida Community Center. Any parents interested in helping, please call Adele at 520-642-1569.

Individual art entries may be displayed inside the Community Center for $3 each. Waivers must be signed. Vending spaces for the Fall Festival are 10 by 10 and cost $15 for the weekend (power, water and shade not included). No food vendors, as the Valley Recreation Council will be selling food. Fees are due by Oct. 1. For displays or vending spaces, contact Adele at 520-642-1569 or email elfridaartcenter@yahoo.com.

Elfrida Art Center will continue to offer free classes and provide a place where artists to show their artistic endeavors in their own home town.

DRAGOON WOMAN'S CLUB is sponsoring a community yard sale at the Old Dragoon School Building, 1871 North Johnson Road, Dragoon on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
