Candidate Meet and Greet Oct. 13
Mark your calendars! Possibly the most important political action you will take other than voting on election day! Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. - All Voters - All Candidates - All Parties are welcome to a "Non-partisan" Meet and Greet at the Willcox Community Center, 2 Blocks west of Haskell Avenue (Business-10) on Stewart Street in Willcox.
The community center ballroom has ample room for candidates, parties and ballot measures, initiatives and causes to set up displays. There will be tables set up throughout the room and there are plenty to go around. Set up will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the Meet and Greet will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
There will be a $1 charge per person at the door to cover cost of the event. Call Cathy Collins for questions or to RSVP (520) 384-5352.
Rex Allen Days Rodeo Queen
Rex Allen Days is right around the corner. Time to grab your jeans, dust off your hat, shine those boots and try out for Rodeo Queen! We need young ladies between the ages of 16 and 24 who love the "cowboy lifestyle!"

Sunsites/Pearce memorabilia
The Old Pearce Preservation Association (OPPA) and the Sunsites Memory Project are gathering photos and memorabilia for a book that will be included in the Images of America series by Arcadia Publishing.
During the month of September, representatives of the two local groups will have scanners and cameras available at popular locations in Sunsites to photograph or scan your collectibles.
They plan be at the Sunsites Community Library, the Community Center, the Visitor Center and Great Western Bank. Schedules with days and times will be available at these locations.
If you are unable to visit one of these locations during a scheduled time, they will be happy to visit with you in your home or office to scan or photograph your items.
Copies of the books from communities in our area that are included in the Images of America series are available at the Sunsites Community Library.

Grief support group begins
Charles W. Leighton, Jr. Hospice will be starting a new eight-session grief support group that is FREE of charge and open to any adult who has lost a loved one. You are not alone - come join us in sharing experiences, healing and hope (a book will be provided). We meet in Willcox, but are also interested in starting a group in the Sunsites area.

Magic Circle Bike Ride Sept. 4
The third annual Magic Circle Bike Ride is just around the corner. On Saturday Sept. 4 the riders will depart Keiller Park for either a 33-mile or 66-mile ride for the more adventure minded.
The ride is staged to benefit the Willcox Chamber of Commerce, The Charles W. Leighton Hospice and The Gale Barton Memorial Scholarship Fund sponsored by American Legion Post 20 of Willcox.
The riders will get to see sights along SR 186. It inclues lunch in Keiller Park after the ride as part of the $30 registration fee.

The WHS Class of 1990 would like to invite classmates and teachers to celebrate their 20-year class reunion Sept. 3-5.

Sept. 3 - Friday Night Kick-Off Party at Angela's house, 119 S. Bisbee. Starts at 7 p.m. Bring a chair and BYOB. We will enjoy pizza, beer and good times!
Saturday
Sept. 4 - 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. - Golf Scramble- Twin Lakes Golf Course
Anyone may golf nine holes for $15.50 -- please include your handicap
11 a.m.-3 p.m. - Family Picnic at Twin Lakes Golf Course. We will meet at the golf course at 11 a.m.. There will be a golf scramble, horseshoes, and a tent for us to kick back and enjoy the nice Willcox fall weather. Children are welcome and we will bar-b-que lunch. Those interested in golfing, please RSVP. If we don't get many golfers, we may need to move the picnic to the park, so this is subject to change.
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Dinner at Coronado Vineyards. Dinner will be held at Coronado Vineyard with its beautiful views, great food, and of course, wine! This will be the perfect place to catch up with everyone, enjoy '80s music and reminisce about the good ol' days.
9 p.m. to 1 a.m. - After Dinner Party at Rix's Tavern. We will be getting our groove on at Rix's with a DJ. Open to public for some dancing and fun!

Advisors for adult center wanted
The Learning Center at NCCH is seeking letters of interest from older adults (age 60 and over) willing to volunteer as members of a Community Advisory Council.
Community Council Members will volunteer with community leaders and hospital staff to provide input and support for the operation of the Learning Center.
Letters are due by Wednesday, Sept. 1. Meetings will be held three times per year. Term lengths to be determined.
Community Advisory Council meetings will be held at the hospital.

Awarding winning Coronado Vineyards 4th Annual Grape Stomp is happening Aug. 28. A day of festivities features live music, food and of course wine tasting. It's your chance for a firsthand experience in winemaking.
Bring the whole family for this festive Italian tradition Adults are $10 and includes a souvenir wine glass, all the grapes you can stomp, and a tasting of all our current releases. Children are our best stompers, the owners said.
The local Tucson band "The Grind' will perform live music, featuring classic rock, funk with undertones of alternative and country.

Races show-cases wines
What do wine and sneakers have in common? The Arizona Wine Growers Association invites you to find out at the Great Arizona Grape Stomp, a series of four 5K runs promoting Arizona's wine industry.
The Great Arizona Grape Stomp will take place in Arizona's three wine-producing regions, as well as downtown Phoenix:
It started on July 24 at Sonoita/Elgin. It will continue on:
Saturday, Aug. 28, 8 a.m., in Verde Valley
Saturday, Sept. 18, 8 a.m., in Willcox
Saturday, Oct. 30, 8 a.m., in Phoenix
Runners will receive a wine glass at the end of the race entitling them to special discounts that day throughout the wine country. The runs are sponsored by the Arizona Wine Growers Association and proceeds will help support Arizona Wine Week, which starts Monday, Nov. 1. The week culminates on Saturday, Nov. 6, with the second annual Festival at the Farm, where the state's top wine growers will gather to showcase their finest wines.

Apple Harvest Celebration begins
The 10th Annual Apple Harvest Celebration will run for three weekends starting Aug. 28. The Celebration will feature tree-ripened apples, homemade apple pies and loads of family fun! "All-You-Can-Eat" Fried Apple Topping and Pancakes breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., and "Apple-Smoked" burger lunches will be served 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of the event.
In addition to apples, there will also be peaches and Asian pears available for you-pick.
Apple Annie's will donate portion of the proceeds from all five weekends of the event to the southern Arizona branch of the March of Dimes.
