1949-2010
William Arthur "Cowboy" Hines, 60, passed on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 in Austin, Texas, following a brief illness. He was born in Willcox, Ariz. on Aug. 28, 1949 to Joe and Gloria Hines, who preceded him in death.
While attending Willcox High School, he was the 1967 Arizona High School Championship Team Roping header. Throughout college, Cowboy participated in numerous rodeo events, and after receiving his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education from New Mexico State University, he taught vocational agriculture in New Rockford, N.D. and Zuni, N.M. Cowboy moved to Texas in 1979 and worked for the Texas Department of Agriculture and the General Services Commission. He was also a music promoter for several Texas-based bands and musicians. He enjoyed working with his hands, leading to his becoming a beloved caterer and furniture maker. As a founding member of the Benevolent Knights of the Raccoons, he enjoyed celebrating Texas culture and heritage, particularly at The West Pole.
Cowboy is survived by his son, Jeremy Hines and his wife, Alyssa, of Kyle; his sister, Sandy Kimberling and his nephew Bill Kimberling of Willcox, Ariz.; his green-cheeked Amazon parrot, Erika; and numerous family members and friends.
A memorial service and potluck dinner will be held at The West Pole in Bee Cave on Friday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. to celebrate Cowboy's life. Please call 830-214-5717 for directions.
