FRIENDS OF THE NRA EVENT: Northern Cochise County Chapter of the Friends of the NRA is having its annual dinner/auction on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Elks Lodge No. 2131, 247 E. Stewart St., Willcox.

Individual tickets are $35. We will be serving steak dinner.

NRA supports many fine programs, including Police Explorers, Boy Scouts, HS shooting teams, Hunter Safety, Eddie Eagle; local ranges, YES scholarships; 4-H programs and Progressive Farmer.


For more information or tickets, contact Rick or Brenda at (520) 824-2299 or Hector Figueroa at 507-2269. Over 100 prizes will be awarded, including over 20 NRA event firearms.

NEW COMMUNITY POOL HOURS: The Willcox Community Pool is changing its hours of operation. New hours for regular swimming:

Fridays: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays: 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays are Family Swim Day for $5 per immediate family.

There will be no more night swimming.

Morning lap swim will be Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. through Thursday, Aug. 19.

The pool will close for the season at 6 p.m. , Sunday, Sept. 5.

Chiricahua monument

FREE ENTRANCE WEEKEND: It is a free entrance weekend at Chiricahua National Monument Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 15. Bring your family to enjoy the "Wonderland of Rocks" and the 15 percent off sale at the visitor center bookstore.

Tours of the Faraway Ranch house will be given at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Call 520-824-3560 ext. 302 for more information.
