WHS registration starts Monday

Welcome back to Willcox High School! The new four-day school week will begin Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 7:25 a.m. School is out at 3:45 p.m.

Registration for high school students will be held during the following times.

August 2 - Seniors 8 a.m. to Noon.

August 3 - Juniors 8 a.m. to Noon.


August 4 - Sophomores 8 a.m. to Noon.

August 5 - Freshmen 8 a.m. to Noon.

Students new to the district may enroll from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the week of August 2nd.

School pictures for yearbook and individual use will be taken Thursday, Aug. 19. There will be several different packages available. For your picture to appear in the yearbook, a student must have his/her picture taken by Lifetouch, including SENIORS on Aug. 19. (You are not obligated to purchase).

Dress code: Both parents and students need to remember the student dress code when purchasing school clothing for next year.

Dress and grooming must be such that they adhere to generally accepted standards, should not be offensive or pose a threat to public or personal health or safety and do not disrupt or distract from the instructional procedure of the school nor tend to diminish the disciplinary control of the teacher.

Accordingly, the following are deemed inappropriate: bare feet (no shoes), see-through clothing, clothing with inappropriate or immodest slogans or pictures, which have profane, violent or sexual connotations, or endorse the use of substances illegal to minors; spandex biking (bike) shorts, shorts shorter than finger-tip length, tank tops, spaghetti straps; swimming suits; cut-offs, bare mid-riff clothing, school athletic gear, sagging pants, baggy pants, or gang-related clothing. Slits and/or holes in clothing above finger tip length, hats, hairnets or any other headgear in classrooms, gym, cafeteria or auditorium are not acceptable.

Shirts must be tucked in, or no longer than finger-tip length. All Shirts, blouses and dresses must have at least a two-inch width on the shoulders. Clothing should not expose areas of stomach, side or back. Bra straps must not be visible and cleavage must be covered.

REMINDER: Cell phones, mp3 players, PSPs and other similar electronic devices are not to be used on campus will be confiscated on sight. If they are visible or make noises or are in use anytime from 7:30 to 3:45, excluding lunch, they will be surrendered on request to any staff member. Failure to surrender the item will result in an automatic 5-day suspension.

FROM THE A.D.'S OFFICE

Free sports physicals for grades 5 through 12, will be offered Friday, July 30 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the WHS gym.

Athletic orientation meetings for all sports will be held Friday, July 30, and Thursday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. in the WHS Auditorium. Each athlete and parent must attend one of these meetings in order for your child to participate in athletics this school year.

Football, volleyball and cheerleading practice will begin Aug. 2 and cross-country and soccer practice will begin on Aug. 9. Athletic contests begin the week of Aug. 23.

We are looking forward to seeing each of you in August for the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.

High School Fee Schedule

Student Activity Fee (All Students)-$20.00,

Lost Locks-$6.00,

Art-$10.00 per semester,

Carpentry-$10.00 per semester,

Clothing-$3.00, Driver's Education-$20.00,

Welding/Farm Mechanics-$15.00 per semester.

Books: Fees for lost books will be assessed at replacement cost. Fees for damaged books will be assessed up to the replacement cost of the book.

Industrial Tech.: Not to exceed $25.00, if student takes project home

Athletics/Other Extra-Curricular: $50.00 participation fee per sport/activity; $120 maximum per student; $300 maximum per family

Activities: All students are responsible for the cost of their physical exams, insurance, and personal equipment (i.e., shoes, socks, undergarments, etc.). Replacement cost will be charged for lost or damaged equipment.

Auto, Woods, Agriculture, Welding/Farm Mechanics and Clothing: Students will be charged for materials or must provide their own materials for use in their personal projects.

Band: $15.00 per year and students will be responsible to provide and repair their own instruments.

There is a maximum fee charge per family for athletics only. The total cost may not exceed $300.00 for both middle and high school students in one family.
