The new Cochise College Willcox Center located at 470 N Bisbee Avenue is now open and will offer many of the classes that have made it a popular destination for high school and adult students alike.
Cochise College routinely graduates students who have earned an Associate's Degree by taking all of their necessary courses here at the Willcox Center. College advisors are ready to help with registration and financial aid information. Most student services are also provided by the Willcox Center, so there is no need to travel to other locations.
Fall semester classes helpful for those who wish to transfer to a university include Composition, Chemistry, Philosophy and Ethics, Computers, Algebra, and Spanish. A new offering of Substance Abuse: Causes and Treatment will be offered by Winfield Thomas, an experienced substance abuse counselor and researcher.
Additional classes offered at the new Willcox Center include:
Painting for Personal Development - Award-winning artist Ron Fritts teaches beginning and experienced artists alike on Fridays at 10 a.m. Well-known artist Karina Stanger also teaches painting on Thursday evenings at 5p.m.
Woodworking - Dean Wilkins teaches students to create beautiful furniture at 4 p.m. Tuesdays. No experience is necessary to enroll.
Digital Photography - Bill Nolan teaches students to use their cameras and manipulate images at 5 p.m. Mondays.
Welding - Learn beginning welding techniques or improve your skills with Clint Sanborn at 4 p.m. Thursdays.
Beginning Karate - Get some exercise by introducing yourself to martial arts at 6 p.m. Thursdays.
Online classes and non-credit courses are also offered through the Willcox Center.
High school students have the opportunity to earn both high school credit and college credit by enrolling in special courses during the day.

Bonita School
Bonita School will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 16. Bonita will be operating under a four-day school week this school year. School will meet Monday through Thursday commencing at 8:05 a.m. for all students. K-6 will be dismissed and buses will run at 2:55. Seventh and eighth grades will be dismissed at 4:05 and a second bus route will run at that time.
New students to Bonita Schools District may register in the office for the school year between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Bus route schedules will be mailed to enrolled students prior to school starting.
Bonita School is excited to welcome Karen Wilhelm to our professional staff this school year. Karen resides in Safford with her husband and family. She is a graduate of Northern Arizona University and brings a variety of experience with her to Bonita. Karen will be teaching 6th-8th Science and Social Studies.

Cochise School
The first day of the 2010-11 school year at Cochise School is Wednesday, Aug. 11, with the first bell sounding at 8 a.m.
Please be aware that the end of the school day has been changed to 3 p.m. from 2:45 p.m. The added time will be used for enhancement activities that will be both fun and educational. The buses for both bus routes will leave the school at approximately 3:10 p.m.
A Back to School Night is in the works with a magic show, food, and other activities to celebrate our return to school, to meet teachers and, most of all, to have a great time. Details will be available at a later date.
Students will find a new outside basketball court that will also be used for tennis and other activities. The old one was replaced due to its poor condition.

Ash Creek
Ash Creek Elementary School District welcomes all of you to a new school year! Classes began on Wednesday, Aug. 4 for kindergarten to eighth grades. The hours are from 7:50 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We will be closed on Fridays.
New students and kindergarteners will need to have their birth certificate and the record of immunization on file in the school office before the start of classes. If your child attended our school last year, there is no need to register again. Kindergarten children must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1.
Pre-School starts Sept. 7, and children must be 4 yrs of age. They also will need to have their birth certificate and immunization record on file in the office before the start of classes. The hours for Pre School are 7:50 a.m. to 1:50 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Pre School parents are required to transport their children to and from school. The cost is $12 a day ($48 a week). Pearce School
Pearce School starts on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
All new and returning students and their parents are requested to attend a "Welcome Back/ Registration" Open house on Thursday, July 29, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Come meet your teachers, see your classrooms, drop off any school supplies, pick up a school handbook, and have your parents turn in the registration packets at this time.
Parents enrolling a new student will need to bring the following documents to enroll their students: certified birth certificate, record of current immunizations, a form of parent I.D. Valley Union
Valley Union High School in Elfrida will be on a four-day school week for the 2010-'11 school year. School will be in session Monday through Thursday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Please plan accordingly.
We are a "High Performing" school for the third consecutive year. In the 08-09 school year, we had the HIGHEST AIMS test scores in Cochise County. We have the Cochise County Teacher of the Year and a Gold Standard Agricultural program. It is a great little small school with many different opportunities and activities for students.

San Simon
San Simon School will begin Monday, August 9. School will begin at 7:50 a.m. and students are released at 4 p.m.

The Cochise County Health Department is announcing its Back-to-School Immunization Clinics for the summer of 2010 at all Health Department locations and at additional locations in the community.

'Stuff The Bus' is back at the Safeway parking lot!
Supplies needed include loose leaf paper, #2 pencils, two-pocket folders, Kleenex, Lysol wipes, yellow highlighters, hand sanitizer, ink pens, crayons, colored pencils, school glue, glue stick, one-subject spiral notebooks, washable markers, dry erase markers, pencil boxes, and copy paper.
Supplies can be dropped off at the Willcox Unified School District Office, 480 N. Bisbee Avenue, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. or at the Willcox Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture from 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9am through 4 p.m. on Saturday.
