San Simon will soon have a clinic of its own again, located on the school grounds.

"There is a new partnership between NCCH and the San Simon School District," said Lineva Donahue, community relations director with Northern Cochise Community Hospital.

Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 3, Frances Grill, FNP, will be seeing patients at the San Simon School every Tuesday, from 9 a.m. until Noon.

"This will be a great benefit to the community of San Simon as they currently have to drive many miles to see a health care provider," said Donahue.

"We're very excited to be doing this again," said Heather Lentz with the San Simon School.

"We can't wait to get it started."

"We used to have a clinic in San Simon," said Grill, explaining that in 2006 she and Dr. Bushman staffed it.

"Heather was a real help with things like getting parent permission," Grill said. "It was smooth."

NCCH Medical Director Dr. Henry Wedig will oversee the clinic and be available for consultations with Grill.

There will be an open house at the clinic from 10 a.m. until Noon on Tuesday, Aug. 3; the same day they are holding school physicals. Walk-ins will be accepted that day.

School Superintendent Curry Donaldson calls it "an opportunity to partner with the hospital and the community to provide this."

"It helps the school and it helps the community," he told the Range News. "I believe it will increase the number of students that will actually be seen (for illnesses). That will increase our attendance, which will help us with our funding."

The existence of the clinic was a plus when he interviewed for the superintendent's position, as he said he has five children.

For Grill, who lives in that area, the San Simon clinic was a stop on the way home.

"I'm really excited about San Simon again," she told the Range News. "The school is so committed to the healthcare of its students."

Grill recalls the time school staff went out to Rodeo, N.M., and picked up a student who had been very ill.

"They got him here (NCCH) and he had an appendectomy."

"That's not the only student we've done that for," Donaldson added.

"We've had two students in the same year that we've had to go to their houses and bring them here."

"Having a clinic there will be blessing," Grill added.

NCCH CEO Harley Smith said, "We look at this as an opportunity for us to reach out farther in our community - they're a part of it."

"I'd love to see a clinic and an ambulatory service out there," Donaldson added.

Patients will need to call 1-800-218-9921 to schedule an appointment for the San Simon clinic.

Grill is willing to make house calls, as well. The patient just needs to call the 1-800 number to make an appointment, Donahue said.

When the time comes, that phone number will also be good for scheduling appointments at the new Portal clinic.

"We plan to be in Portal this fall," Grill added.

Chris Donahue, NCCH director of safety, security, risk and facilities, said the hospital is looking this week at construction.

"We have an elderly community who is having trouble getting here, so we're really excited to have Frances come to us," said Susanne Dyal, with the Portal Rescue Board.

"They're getting the exam rooms ready as soon as possible."

"I just think this is going to be wonderful," said Cheri Greenwade, who is also on the Portal Rescue Board.

"We have senior citizens out there - a lot of them are on blood thinners and have to have tests every week."

"I really want to get the word out," she told the Range News. "There's a lot of us out there - on ranches."
