Father, sons allegedly steal $2,000 in goods
By Carol Broeder/Arizona Range News
About $2,000 in stolen items has been recovered and three are in custody, following a recent Willcox-area burglary.
Gerry Ray Dean, 41, and his two sons Jeremy, 19, and Christopher, 16, were taken into custody July 16, and charged with making unlawful entry onto private property on West Hansen Road in Willcox, said spokeswoman Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.
The juvenile was remanded as an adult on Tuesday, July 20.
The victim had reported the burglary originally on July 12, telling sheriff's deputies that his Honda ATV was missing, and that someone had done $260 damage to his fence.
He reported another burglary between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Friday, July 16.
A total $2,000 in goods were stolen, including several rolls of copper wiring, pipe tubing, 10 aluminum wheel rims, two all-terrain tires, crates of pipe fittings, and other construction materials, said Capas, adding that they had been sold to a recycling business in Willcox.
The Honda ATV, taken during the July 12 burglary, was also recovered and returned to the victim, she said.
Following tracks and leads, sheriff's deputies determined that, other than the fact they occurred at the same place, the two burglaries had similar "evidentiary items," said Capas, adding that people in the area also provided additional information on the crimes.
That led deputies to believe the Deans had sold the items to the recycling business in Willcox, where the owners consented to a search of their property, she said.
A subsequent search of the Deans' property produced the stolen ATV and other items.
Gerry Dean was arrested and charged with theft and trafficking stolen property, and was held on a $30,000 bond, Capas said.
Jeremy Dean was charged with two counts each of theft, trafficking, and burglary; as well as one count of criminal damage; and also held on a $30,000 bond.
Charges against Christopher Dean are two counts each of burglary, theft, and supervising stolen property/trafficking; and one charge of trafficking, she said.
"The determination of our deputies and the cooperation of the community that helped bring this successful outcome," Capas told the Range News.
The investigation continues.
