Willcox Salvation Army fundraiser
The Willcox Salvation Army is in need of donations and is promoting a "Christmas in July" campaign in an effort to boost contributions.
Most of our local contributions come in during the holiday season. We have been very fortunate to have wonderful volunteers to "ring our bell" during the holidays for our Christmas kettle collections. In addition, generous individuals have sent donations and a number of our local churches have taken collections for our Salvation Army Unit.
All of the money donated locally stays in Willcox to assist local families and individuals with a wide variety of charitable assistance ranging from utility assistance to food, prescriptions, housing, clothing and summer camp. There is no doubt that the struggling economy has had a large impact on folks in our community. When someone in the household loses a job or cannot work because of a medical condition or other unforeseen emergency, the results can be devastating and lifestyles can decline rapidly. This is when the Salvation Army steps in to help those in need. However, we cannot do this without local donations.
So far this year the Willcox Salvation Army has assisted approximately 120 families/individuals who have been faced with an emergency or crisis situation. "Although contributions for the holidays were generous, we are out of money now and only half way through the year. I am hopeful our Christmas in July campaign will help raise awareness about our Local Salvation Army and the important work we are doing in our community to provide assistance to those in need," said Penny Bell, Willcox Service Extension Coordinator. "If you are a member of an organization or group in Willcox, I encourage you to put together a summer fund raiser to help out. Or if you are just someone who considers their life blessed, and would like to provide a blessing for someone less fortunate, please mail or bring your donation to 320 W. Rex Allen Drive. For all of those who have donated generously to the Willcox Salvation Army, thank you. Rest assured your donations have blessed someone's life."
