'Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl' to open for Way Out West Utah festival
Critically acclaimed indie-folk duo and Willcox residents, Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl will be taking the main stage Sunday, Aug. 8, at Utah's Way Out West Music Festival, at the Snow Basin Ski Resort in Huntsville.
Currently promoting their third, and most recent album, Children of Fortune, the longtime southwestern touring force, NM&aWG, will mark their first return to Utah in over a year, with their appearance at the music festival. The husband and wife duo from Willcox, Ariz. will be opening for festival headliners Dwight Yoakham, Martin Sexton, and Sam Bush.
The Way Out West Festival is Aug. 7-8 with a lineup including Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl, Dwight Yoakham, Martin Sexton, Sam Bush, Junior Brown, Dave Mason, Robben Ford and many more. Visit www.wayoutwestfestival.com for more information.
Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl are 2008 Tucson Music Award winners in the Folk Category. The duo has been performing and touring extensively since 2002. Besides her work with NM&aWG, Amy sings back up for many of Arizona's top recording artists. Her vocals can be found on Jimmy Eat World's lastest release, Chase This Light, produced by Butch Vig. She has also toured with Jimmy Eat World and The Format.
Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl's style mirrors their life. Pianist/singer Amy Ross and guitarist Derrick Ross are nomads in the truest sense. Spending most of the past few years casting fate to the wind, they floated around but never truly settled in places like Nashville, and Arizona towns with colorful names like Wolfhole, Bisbee, Yodaville, Buckeye, Hell's Dump, Willcox, and Mexican Hat. And like the myriad of locales the Ross' have experienced, their music is also a melting pot of musical styles. At any given moment on their album, you'll hear influences of Billie Holiday, Carole King, ragtime, Joni Mitchell, Robert Johnson, Pink Floyd, Sylvia Plath and absinthe, all wrapped in an eerie obsession with happiness and death.
