The South Fork Fire, burning west of Rodeo, N.M., and about six miles southwest of Portal on the Coronado National Forest, was 90 percent contained as of noon Monday.
The fire, which started last Thursday, has charred 88 acres.
It is seated in a deep canyon in rugged country, according to officials with the Coronado National Forest.
The fire is believed to be human caused and remains under investigation.
While no structures have been threatened, South Fork Road was closed at Cave Creek Road. The road closure was to be lifted after Monday.
About 25 people are battling the blaze - a Type III Incident Commander; one Hotshot crew of 20 from Globe; and a Type II (H-318) Helicopter.
The fire was to be turned over Monday night to the Douglas Ranger District, which will be checking and monitoring the fire.
