Athens, Texas - Memorial Services for Syble Louise Becker, 83, of Athens were on Friday, March 12 at St. John Lutheran Church in Athens at 2 p.m._ She passed away on March 6, 2010, in Athens. Arrangements are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens._
Syble was born on Dec. 13, 1926, in Enochs, Texas, to Charles and Grace Cruickshank Vanlandingham. She was married to her husband, the love of her life, for 62 years. Syble worked as an RN in Lubbock, Texas, in her early life and spent 40 years in Arizona before moving to Athens.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. Syble loved serving others. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Athens. Previously in Willcox, Ariz., she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church._
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister._ She is survived by her husband, A.J. Becker, of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Suzanne Becker, of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Larry Wisdom, of Tyler, Texas; Karla and Bruce Odom, of Athens; and Luanne and Mike Watson, of Yuma, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. _In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, 451 Lila Lane, Athens, Texas 75751.
