Spring sports in full swing
Shortstop Rudy Verdugo helped Willcox surprise Safford 6-3 behind winning pitcher LJ Hedges in the prep baseball season opener last Wednesday. The Cowboys would follow with a 6-1 loss at Valley Union and 5-2 home-setback versus Sahuarita in the Safford Tournament play on Thursday and Friday. But Willcox (2-2) finished on an upbeat note Saturday with a 5-4 victory over Miami behind winner Dustin Seney. The Cowboys visit Benson on Friday and host Tombstone on Tuesday.
