Student contests for Law Day
On behalf of Cochise County's Law Day Committee, we are delighted to announce this year's nationally selected Law Day theme: Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges.
As in the past, attorneys and probation officers are available to give presentations to your schools on our theme and related contest topics. Your school will be contacted to schedule these presentations or, to reserve a date you may contact: Denise Caraballo of Juvenile Court Services at 520.432.7575, email: dcarabal@courts.az.gov or Attorney Candy Pardee at 520.439.8000, email: cbp@udallshumway.com.
To get a head start, guided curricula is available at www.lawday.org. Contest winners, their parents. teachers, and school administrators will be invited to our Law Day 2010 Celebration to be held Thursday, April 29, at 10 a.m., on the steps of the Cochise County Courthouse in Bisbee. In addition to receiving an award, we would like to give the contest winners the opportunity to read their entries or comment on their artwork to the audience.
All schools will receive a list of the award winners. General questions may be referred to Denise Lundin at 520-432-8571 or Karen Ferrara at 520-432-8505.
Announcing Essay, Art and YouTube contests
As we reach the second decade of the 21st century, the law is changing dramatically as it seeks to shape and adapt to new conditions. In such an era all of us must renew our commitment to the enduring principles of law, become knowledgeable about other legal systems, recognize the need to adapt our practices, and acquire new cultural understandings.
DEADLINE IS MONDAY, APRIL 5, 2010.
ESSAY: Open to Cochise County students with separately judged categories for 6th-9th grade students and 10th-12th grade students.
Topic: "Global Rights and Responsibilities in the Cyber-Age"
Criteria: No longer than 3 pages, double-spaced.
GRAPHIC ARTS/PHOTOGRAPHY: Open to Cochise County students with separately judge categories for 6th-9th grade students and 10th-12th grade students.
Topic: "Global Rights and Responsibilities: Picture the Cyber-Age"
POSTER: Open to Cochise county students from kindergarten-5th grades.
Topic: "Show a Law of the Future"
YouTube Contest: Open to 6th-9th grade and 10th-12th grade categories:
Topic: "Global Rights and Responsibilities: Video and Cyber-Age"
Criteria: YouTube contest guidelines entry form and release form are available on Facebook site "Cochise County Law Day" and www.cochise.az.gov at the Clerk of Superior Court's homepage.
Schools should submit their entries from each category to Denise Lundin, Clerk of the Superior Court, PO Box CK. Bisbee, AZ 85603. YouTube entries to be submitted per guidelines above.
