BENSON
MARCH IS ARTS MONTH is coming up. The San Pedro River Arts Council is partnering with the Benson/San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Cochise College to put on a variety of events during the month of March, most at the Benson Center. There will be an adult Visual Art Show at the College for the month, a Teen Competition at the Benson City Hall Gallery, and from March 13-20 (break week for the College) there will be a full slate of events entitled Celebrate the Arts!, most all of the events will be free!
The Art show will open with a bang Saturday, March 13: Duane Reilley and his Dixieland Jazz Band will be performing that evening, after a short presentation by the new President of Cochise College, Dr. J.D. Rottweiler. Sunday afternoon will be a reading of some of Edgar Allan Poe's dark stories and a portrait painting demonstration by Clement Scott. Monday there will be a film in the afternoon, Tuesday afternoon there will be arts and crafts for children. Wednesday is Irish Day, with beading and crocheting to learn, and the Barbershop Minstrels in the evening. Thursday is a time for writers to find their muse and to put their manuscripts into book form with the expert help of Howard Bandy. Making art paper, is also on the docket for Thursday, and the Celtic/Norse stories and music of Gareth MacKenzie. Friday, observe the process of encaustic, with Karon Leigh, and in the evening, enjoy a discussion of Nancy Turner's books with the author herself. We end the week with a performance of the Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo High School Mariachi band. The full program can be downloaded from our website: www.sprarts.org .

BOWIE SWAP MEET: Come out every Saturday in Bowie; meet people and earn a little cash. Spaces are free.
The community-based Bowie Swap Meet begins at 9 a.m. each Saturday.
There will be a 50-50 raffle. Winning ticket will be drawn at noon. Winner must be present: 50 percent of the cash goes to Bowie Food Pantry.
