Unofficial results of ballots cast in Willcox today and returned absentee ballots give four candidates - two incumbents and two newcomers - the advantage for grabbing the four open seats in the Willcox City Council Election.
Incumbents Monika Cronberg (176 votes) and Gerald "Sam" Lindsey (160 votes) took the lead, while newcomers William "Bill" Holloway (142 votes) and Robert "Bob" Irvin (137 votes) followed.
Newcomer Paul Sheats (85 votes) and incumbent Larry Schultz (80 votes) do not have enough votes to make the majority cut-off (50 percent of ballots, plus one), with the total of 187 ballots cast in Willcox Tuesday, said Cristy Whelan, city clerk, and an estimated 51 absentee ballots mailed in, according to the Cochise County Election Office website.
An estimated 95 absentee ballots were mailed out by the county elections office.
Election results are unofficial, as electronic transmission was not possible from the City of Willcox, and results will be updated upon verification of provisional ballots by the Cochise County Recorder's Office.
Results may also be seen on http://cochise.az.gov by going to the sidebar, "Election Results", and then "March 9, 2010 Election - Official Results."
The top four candidates with a majority of votes will be elected. If there are not four candidates with a majority (returned absentee ballots and provisional or conditional must be counted in the total), a run-off election will occur May 18.
There were also seven votes cast in Willcox and 34 absentee votes for Jimmy Norris, who withdrew his candidacy a week prior to the election; and three write-in ballots, Whelan said.

" It seems sad that only 15% of the registered voters turned out to choose prospective counsel members that will affect 100% of the population. I'm curious the percentage of "Gripers and Complainers". My view is if you don't exercise your right to vote you lose your right to complain! "
