Damage control
Everyone knows that we, as a country, are hurt badly. Of all the profusely bleeding wounds that we have suffered, our financial state is the wound most threatening to bleed us to death. In the triage room of immediate issues, the horrendously damaged economy should be the first patient cared for, and the climate should be given a number and a gurney in the hall.
It is so nice that Congresswoman Giffords took her husband to Copenhagen for the climate summit. Not very many of us have the opportunity to see the faraway places that we have longed to visit; not very many of us have ever stayed, even for one night, at a five-star hotel; not very many of us have ever had an haute cuisine meal. To paraphrase an old Loretta Lynn song, "Here in Topeka," I would sing to Ms. Giffords:
"I've heard that the Marriott is a classy place to stay
with caviar, the best wines, and scrumptious pate
To attend the climate summit you flew military jet
And you got to take your honey, much to your regret
It sounds as though "vacation" was an awful lot of fun
And work must've took a backseat, cuz you all got nothin' done
But here in Willcox
The prices keep a-risin'
Jobs are getting' scarcer
And it's not real surprisin'
That change is on the way..."
I have a concern as to why the government footed the bill for one hundred and one people? Are these people experts in climate and environmental matters, or politicians?
Since nothing was accomplished in this meeting, did the attending parties have any actual power to invoke changes and make decisions? Sounds an awful lot like a social event to me.
Oh, I'm sure they talked about global warming. Since they are all politicians, not schooled and learned in global climate issues, aside from the presentations that they surely had, this "meeting" would have amounted to "gossipy drivel." They could have done that at Denny's, and everyone could have paid their own check.
So... Ms. Giffords states that she "always meant to pay it back." So did Dana Johnson...
