The Willcox City Council plans to again discuss airport acquisition at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, in council chambers, 300 W. Rex Allen Drive.

City Manager Pat McCourt said Wednesday morning that he plans to place the item on the next regular agenda, so that the council may "provide direction to staff" on the matter.

The council held a special work session Feb. 1 on the recommendation from the Airport Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to acquire the airport.

No decision was made later at the regular meeting, since it was not an action item on the agenda.

A full copy of the report can be found on the city's website, www.cityofwillcox.org, by clicking on "Airport Ad Hoc Committee Report."

Last February, the ad hoc committee was tasked with recommending whether the city should acquire the airport or leave it in county hands. According to committee Chairman Rod Keeling, after meeting during the spring and summer and holding a July 9 town hall meeting, on July 23 the committee voted unanimously to recommend to the council "that the City of Willcox should acquire the airport from Cochise County."

Keeling had presented the committee's final recommendation to the council at its Dec. 21 meeting.

Mayor Sam Lindsey expressed concern over the lack of attendance by the public at the Feb. 1 meeting, so wanted to give the public more opportunity to comment.
