The Kansas Settlement Family Store burned to the ground Tuesday morning in what appears to be an electrical fire.
According to family friend Laurie Smallwood, while no one was injured the Emilio Cornejo family lost both their business and home in the blaze at
The Cochise County Sheriff's Department received the call at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, said spokeswoman Carol Capas.
The man reported that he could see smoke and flames coming from the building at 8198 S Kansas Settlement Road.
Willcox Rural, Sunsites, Willcox City, and Elfrida Fire Departments all responded, said Capt. Jerry Giudice with the Willcox City Fire Department.
Crews fought the fire for about four-and-a-half hours, he said.
An account has been set up for the family (two adults and three children) at Compass Bank in Willcox, according to Smallwood.
Also, Gerry Miller of Kansas Settlement is accepting donations at her home. Miller's phone number is (520) 384-2006.
The fire, which was caused by faulty electrical wiring, was determined to be accidental, Capas said Wednesday morning.
