"We are offering an exciting new service the public," says Tom Miner, director of the city's library, which is providing its patrons with online access to more than 2,530 titles.

eAudiobooks are now available at the Elsie S. Hogan Library through the Online Computer Library Center's (OCLC) Net Library.

These are books that have been read aloud and recorded.

They are available from such notable authors as James Patterson, J.A. Jance, and J.K. Rowling.

Collections available include Children's, Young Adult, Popular Fiction, Self-Help, and more.

"Residents of the Willcox area and Cochise County now have anytime, anywhere access to 2,532 different titles, with 20 new titles being added each month - 15 for adults and five for children," Miner said.

eAudiobooks can be accessed and downloaded via the library's two websites, www.cochise.lib.az.us (main), or, www.cityofwillcox.org (Under Depts, click Library, then click on Catalog). The search title is: downloadable audiobooks.

New users may need to stop by the city library and create an online account.

"Audiobooks, in the form of cassettes and CDs, have been popular in libraries for many years," Miner said.

"The ability to download eAudiobooks from the Web is being embraced by long-time listeners, as well as new listeners who want material for their portable media devices," he said.

They can be checked out from the library or from a personal computer via the library's website 24/7.

Users may check out up to 10 eAudiobooks at a time, and they are automatically returned to the library at the end of the checkout period. Unfortunately, there are no renewals on these items.

eAudiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop, laptop or portable device that supports Windows Media Player version 9 and above.

Users can also transfer favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices, including portable music players such as iPods, portable media centers and more.

The SEAGO computer is the designated point of transfer in the Willcox library for downloadable audios.

The city library's hours of operation are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For further information, call the library at (520) 766-4250.
