Christmas Apple Festival and lighted parade this Friday and Saturday
By Carol Broeder/Arizona Range News
Willcox will kick off the Christmas season with an apple festival and lighted parade this coming weekend.
The Willcox Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture sponsors the annual Christmas Apple Festival, held at the Willcox Community Center, 312 W. Stewart St.
This year, the event will feature vendors with handcrafted arts and crafts and "quality reproductions," as well as free drawings for door prizes throughout the day.
The Art League of Willcox is sponsoring an art and photography show as part of this year's festival.
The league will provide cash prizes. A best of show award of $25 will be presented to a single outstanding work of art, as well as $15 for the best of each of four categories: $10 for two judge's choice awards, and $10 for two special student awards.
The show is open to artists and photographers for a fee of $5 per entry, and $3 for K-12 students. There is a limit of three entries per person.
Entrants may also price their works for sale and no commission will be taken.
Entries must be delivered to the community center today, Wednesday, Dec. 2; from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Entry fees must be paid at that time.
Categories include two-dimensional art (drawings, pastels, and paintings); three dimensional art (sculpture, carvings, fabrics, or textiles), and photography (color and black and white). There are two special theme categories: apples and Christmas (any media).
Entry forms may be obtained from the Art League's website, www.willcoxart.org.

This year's Apple Festival is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, and again from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Following the festival on Saturday is the Christmas Lighted Parade, featuring an array of festive lighted entries, and Santa himself will be there.
"Bring your kids, your family," said Chamber Director Kathy Smith.
"I just think it's a great family night."
The parade begins at 6 p.m. at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Fremont Street, and ends at Maley in historic downtown Willcox.
There you will find entertainment, free hot dogs for the kids, and free hot chocolate all evening.
Rex Allen Jr. is scheduled to appear, singing everyone's favorite Christmas Carols.
Floats, walkers, animals, and bands are welcome, "as long as you're lighted."
Entry forms are available at the Chamber office, 1500 N. Circle I Road.
