Reward for info on shooting of cow

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of one or more individuals in the shooting of a cow found dead Nov. 14 on the Sierra Bonita Ranch west of Bonita.

The incident occurred sometime between Nov. 11 and Nov. 13 along the dirt road to the Martin Ranch on the Sierra Bonita Ranch property. The area provides public access to state lands used by sportsmen who may have observed suspicious activity during that time period.

"This is a crime, not the act of a hunter or sportsman. Incidents like this complicate our efforts to ensure access to hunting areas through private lands," said Acting Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of the Arizona Game and Fish Department in Tucson. "We welcome the Human Society's offer of a reward in this case."

To report information on the incident, or any Game and Fish violation, please call the Department's Operation Game Thief Hotline at (800) 352-0700. Callers may remain confidential upon request.

LDS Ward 1 holds supply-raiser

The Willcox 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organizing a community drive to help fill some needs in our local Willcox Elementary and Middle Schools.

Items that are being collected include:

  • Liquid Tylenol

  • Robitussin DM

  • Cough Drops

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Kleenex Tissue (any brand)

  • Sweatpants for children in Kindergarten thru 4th grade

If you can help with donations of any of the above items, you may drop them off at the Willcox Elementary School (Susan Poire is the school nurse and contact person there) or at the Willcox Family Dental office on Rex Allen Drive (with Nan Cambern being the contact person there). Donations will be accepted through Dec. 18.

We know there are many wonderful and giving people in our community and feel that together with your help and involvement, we can help serve this need for the children in our area during this tough cold and flu season.

For further information, please contact Teresa Mills at (520) 384-3778.

    Seniors may qualify for wheelchair

Reclaim your independence with a power wheelchair at little or no cost.

Medicare's regulations now make it easier for seniors and others with debilitating conditions such as arthritis, stroke, heart and breathing problems, or diabetes, to obtain a power wheelchair at little or no cost. Miracle on Wheels is trying to increase public awareness about the assistance options that allow seniors and the disabled to remain independent in their own homes rather than undergo difficult surgery or other expensive treatment, or resort to moving into a nursing home.

These assistance options are available to anyone with problems getting around their home, or who are in danger of falling due to their medical condition. So those who are suffering from any condition that severely limits their mobility should call Miracle on Wheels at 1-800-400-4210 toll free to learn about qualifying now for a power wheelchair at little or no cost.

    County surcharge on recorded docs

By order of the Cochise County Board of Supervisors, as of Oct. 19, there is an additional $4 surcharge on each document submitted for recording. For more information, contact County Recorder Christine Rhodes at crhodes@cochise.az.gov, (520) 432-8350 or toll-free 1-888-457-4513.
