While "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" is the theme of the 30th annual Lambda Chi Omega - Beta Chapter fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 20, the Willcox sorority wants you to know that Santa Claus is coming to town!

"Bring your own camera," said Holiday House Chairman Jeanne Douglas. "We're the first organization to bring Santa to Willcox each year and it's a great setting to take pictures of your children with Santa."

The event is Friday at the Willcox Elks Lodge (247 E. Stewart St.) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a $3 admission charge for adults and $2 for children. Kids under two are free.

"I want everyone to know that the admission charge and all the money we make at this fundraiser goes to a good cause. We have donated $50,000 for local scholarships in the past 30 years. And that doesn't include the other charities to which we've donated, including (Willcox Community) Food Pantry, (Charles Wm. Leighton Jr.) Hospice, (WASA) Coats for Kids, (DES Foster) Children's Christmas Party, (Willcox DPS) Toys for Tots, women's domestic abuse shelters and Arizona Girls Ranch," she said.

"We have been working on our hand-made crafts (that will be for sale) since March or April," she said. "And the Gourmet Food Shop is a great place to go for baked goods for Thanksgiving!"

There will also be door prizes, a raffle for an Apple i-Pod Touch (32 GB), and a refreshment table with free punch and cookies.

The Holiday House is the only fundraiser for the LCO-Beta Chapter each year, Douglas said. "This is our big Kahuna - and we all turn gray right after that!"

One or more $750 scholarships, in the name of Sherry Gunter Adams who died in 1972 at the age of 35, may be given to an LCO-Beta member's child or grandchild.

The recipients this year were Westen Haas and JJ Moss, grandchildren of Betty Thompson, who has been a member of LCO-Beta since 1981, and Kensie Fowler and Nicolas Fiera, grandchildren of Willcox member Marilyn Fowler since 1985, and Kathleen Young, grandchild of Alumna member Marie Martin, of Willcox.

The local chapter of the national sorority gave a $1,000 scholarship in May to Willcox High School senior Edward Estavillo. He is a 2009 Willcox High School graduate and is currently at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif. His parents are Tom and Carol Estavillo.

A $1,000 continuing education scholarship is also given annually to a student who graduated from WHS and is at least a second-year student in a college, trade, or technical school. Jamie Franco is this year's recipient. She graduated from Willcox High School in 2008, and is currently studying sports medicine at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher. She is the daughter of Joe and Delia Franco of Willcox.

Students at WHS may speak to their counselor about applying for those scholarships in February 2009. The deadline is in late March.

The sorority has up to 25 members, including officers: President Bonnie Thompson, Vice President Adela Erickson, Treasurer Glenda Love, Recording Secretary Donna Tryon and Correspondence Secretary Betty Thompson.
