Tom Jenney, legislators to attend T.E.A. Party Saturday
By Peggy Judd/Special to the range news
Do you watch the direction that America is headed and feel powerless to stop it? Do you believe that your voice isn't loud enough to be heard above the noise anymore? Come to a T.E.A. Party and find that the truth is, we are all in this together and we have a voice!
Everyone is invited to a day of sharing and solutions. At 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, join us at the Best Western Plaza Inn Kiva Room, 1100 W. Rex Allen Dr., in Willcox. Snacks will be served and Old Time Fiddlers will entertain.
This will be a peaceful demonstration concerning today's major topics of healthcare reform and stimulus spending. State Rep. David Stevens will be in attendance and Sen. Manny Alvarez hopes to be in attendance, as his schedule will allow. We have received regrets from Rep. Pat Fleming, who has a previous engagement; but we are planning to have other area political leaders present.
Tom Jenney, the state director for the Arizona Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, will attend. Jenney, formerly the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers (AFT) (www.aztaxpayers.org) will be speaking at the TEA Party on Saturday. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and immediatly entered into conservative politics, working in Washington, D.C., for the Institute for Justice and the Cato Institute. He has also spent time at the Center for Pension Reform in Santiago, Chile and from 2002 to 2004, and was communications director of the Goldwater Institute.
A Tuscon native, Jenney began his involvement with Americans for Prosperity in 2006. Americans for Prosperity is one of the premier grassroots citizen lobbyist organizations in the country with over 300,000 members nationwide. Americans for Prosperity is a citizen watchdog organization focused on promoting the free-market and issues such as budget reform, lower taxes, government transparency and accountability.
During his tenure with AFT, Jenney helped to reduce state income and property taxes, and helped lead the fight to pass Prop 207, the Private Property Rights Protection Act. From 2004 to 2008, Jenney oversaw the publication of the AFT-AFP "Friend of the Taxpayer" Legislative Scorecard. Continuing this spirit of limited government into his service with AFP Arizona, his actions led to the defeat of the TIME referendum, which would have imposed a one-cent sales tax increase on the state.
