Rex Allen Museum to celebrate 20th anniversary

The old story of "Local Boy Makes Good" is being celebrated in Willcox for the 58th year, but this year we are also celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the Rex Allen Arizona Cowboy Museum.
Rex Allen Days in 1989 hosted the Grand Opening of the museum. So, this year we are celebrating with a "Wine & Cheese Reception/Fund Raiser/Membership Drive" on Friday night Oct. 2 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Willcox Community Center.
Your admission is $20, which includes a one-year membership to the museum. If you are a current museum member, admission is free. There will be entertainment by Jeff Connors, son of Chuck Connors of Rifleman fame, an entertainer in his own right, an appearance by Jamie Nudie, granddaughter of "Nudie" the Rodeo Taylor, and several of the "Cowgirls Western Federation" will do a fashion show and help entertain.
This will be the first year for "The Western Legends Awards." This award will honor those that have made a significant contribution to Western entertainment. This year's recipients are: Rex Allen Sr., Rex Allen Jr., Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez and 'Nudie' the Rodeo Taylor. Master of Ceremonies for this year's awards will be Eddie Browning.
The museum located on Historic Railroad Avenue across from the statue of Rex Allen in Railroad Park, attracts over 10,000 tourists a year to Willcox. It is a vital part of the Historic District in more ways that one. The Rex Allen Movie Theater, which is owned by the museum, also helps bring business and people to the area.
Willcox is one of the few places outside of Tucson where you can go to a movie, especially a "First Run" movie. The theater not only provides something for our kids to do, but also provides jobs for several of the students. What most people don't realize is that without assistance from the museum the theater would have to close.
It is our hope that the community of Willcox will realize how important the museum is and will step up and join us for a fun-filled evening.
