City applies for transportation funds
Local providers may then apply for those LTAF II grants

The City of Willcox has applied for a little more than $5,000 in transportation funds, which will be passed through to local providers.
The Southeastern Arizona Governments Organization (SEAGO) announced on Monday, Aug. 24, that funding would be available for Local Transportation Assistance Funds II, (LTAF II), said Ruth Graham, the city's finance director.
The city has been allocated funding of $5,417.76.
The state treasurer's office anticipates distributing the funds awarded to local entities in November.
LTAF II funds are designated for public transportation purposes, Graham explained.
Since the city does not provide public transportation services, in past years it has passed the funds through in equal shares to local providers, including Northern Cochise Community Hospital, the Willcox Unified School District, and Catholic Community Services.
"If the funds are not used for public transportation purposes or passed through to providers of such services, the city will not receive the funding," she told the council.
"If the council approves the application for LTAF II funds, staff will request applications from the hospital and the schools," said Graham, adding, "Catholic Community Services is no longer providing transportation services in the Willcox area."
A van service, run by Catholic Community Services for the transportation of senior citizens as well as the physically challenged, ended in April in Willcox.
"If we are notified that there are other providers of public transportation, we will ask them to apply, as well," Graham told the council at its Sept. 8 meeting.
City council unanimously approved the application, which was due on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The funds would be passed through to local providers of public transportation services, pursuant to application and in such amounts as awarded by the council, Graham said.
The hospital has used its LTAF II funds to transport the residents of Northern Cochise Nursing Home for more than four years, giving those "house-bound" residents an outing on a regular basis and taking residents to physicians' visits as necessary.
Community Relations Director Lineva Donahue said Monday that NCCH is applying for a separate grant through SEAGO to take over the van service formerly provided by CCS.
