Savannah Todd of Willcox was recently named the Arizona High School Rodeo Association 2008-09 All-Around Champion at the state finals held June 11-13 in Payson.

Among numerous other awards, Todd was honored by the Ariat Boot Company of Union City, Ca.; Wrangler Jean Company of Greensboro, N.C.; and Resistol Hats of Garland, Tex.

She received a pair of Ariat Boots, a pair of Wrangler 20X jeans, and a Resistol Hat, respectively.

The National High School Rodeo Association (NHRSA) All-Around Champion awarded program was started seven years ago as a way of recognizing those members who, through their outstanding skills, have earned the right to be called the best young rodeo athlete in each of the NHSRA's 47-affiliate associations, including 41 U.S. states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia, said NHSRA Marketing Director Colin Greenfield.

Wrangler Jeans and Shirts initiated this awards program seven years ago to go along with the Wrangler High School All Star team program, he said.

Wrangler provides apparel as well as significant college scholarship support to the NHSRA, to be distributed at the, Greenfield said.

Todd, an 11th grader with Abeka Academy, was also named "Rookie of the Year" by Gist Silversmiths.

Gist, based in Placerville, Calif., initiated this awards program eight years ago to recognize outstanding first year high school rodeo athletes.

"Youth are not only the future of the equine business but also the future of this great country," said Jennifer Folsom, president of Gist Silversmiths.

Todd and her horse Classy were also honored by the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) and Western Horseman with a $250 college scholarship and a breast collar for being named the Arizona High School Rodeo Association's Girl's Horse of the Year.

To be eligible for the Western "Horseman" of the Year honors, the rider has to be a current member of the NHSRA as well as the AQHA Youth Association.

In addition, the nominated horse had to be a registered American Quarter Horse.

Once all eligibility requirements were met, the horse and rider earned points by qualifying for and competing at their respective state or provincial finals.

The horse and rider earning the most points were named the horseman and horse of the year.

From there, they are eligible to compete for National Western "Horseman" of the Year honors by competing at the National High School Finals Rodeo July 19-15 in Farmington, N.M.
