Groundbreaking ceremony for Cochise College Willcox Center to be held July 8
Cochise College will break ground for a new Willcox Center Wednesday, July 8. Cochise College is partnering with Willcox Unified School District to construct a new college facility, to be located on Bisbee Avenue directly south of the Willcox School District Administration Building.
The public is invited to attend a short groundbreaking ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8. The groundbreaking will be held at the site of the new Center. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the middle school gym located at 360 N. Bisbee Avenue.
The new facility will house seven classrooms including a science lab, a computer lab, and an interactive television classroom. In addition there will be open areas for students to study and relax between classes. The Willcox Center has been enjoying growing enrollment. The new center will be a modern educational facility to be used by the students of Northern Cochise County, as well as by high school students who are getting a jump start on their college education by taking dual credit courses in conjunction with Willcox High School.
Debra Ellis, Director of the Willcox Center says, "We are so excited to be building a high-quality educational center. This center is possible in large part because of the support of the Willcox community for higher education."
Dr. Richard Rundhaug, superintendent of the Willcox Unified School District, adds, "This is a venture that will benefit both Cochise College and Willcox Unified Schools. It is a great example of cooperation between two educational entities."
