Public meeting on 4th grade move
A public meeting regarding consideration of moving the fourth grade from the Middle School to the Elementary School will be held on Monday, June 29 at the Willcox School District Education Center Board Room, 480 N. Bisbee Ave. It will begin at 7 p.m.
"We'd like to get as many people as possible to share their ideas either way," said Willcox Schools Superintendent Dr. Richard Rundhaug.
He added, "It is not all our decision. We must get permission for the State School Facilities Board to move the grade to a different school. So right now, it's all tentative."
Democrats to meet to hear candidate
The next meeting of the Northern Cochise County Democratic Club will be at the TA Truck Stop in Willcox on Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. The main speaker will be Joseph Huff of Scottsdale, who is a candidate for U.S. Senate. Everyone is welcome!p.m.
Dump the Drugs Day July 23
The Dump the Drugs Day will be held at the Sulphur Springs Medical Clinic on July 23 from 4 until 7 p.m. It is sponsored and coordinated by Willcox Police Department, Northern Cochise Community Hospital and WASA and done in coordination with the NCCH Summer Health Fair. We hope to make this an annual event.
The Dump the Drugs Day is part of a widespread movement to assist in reducing the improper use of prescription medications. The misuse of prescribed medications is the fastest growing drug problem among youth in the United States today. Unfortunately, a large part of this problem is that these drugs can too often be obtained at no cost by going through the medicine cabinets and drawers of parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends.
Everyone knows that they should destroy unused prescriptions as soon as they are no longer needed, but it is easy to forget, and even if we remember the disposal itself can create problems. In the not too distant past we were encouraged to flush or wash unused medicines down the drain, but we now know that this can pollute water supplies and cause far reaching problems for the environment.
Organized Dump The Drugs Days can provide a safe option. We are asking community members to go through all the places that they store medications and take out everything that is out of date or no longer needed; bring them to the clinic between 4 and 7 p.m. on July 23 - a team of medical and police officials will log the contents and package them for incineration.
The Dump The Drugs movement is sanctioned by the DEA and encouraged in all communities. Our neighbors in Safford, Sierra Vista and Bylas have successfully held Dump The Drugs Days and feel they have been very helpful in reducing the amount of illegally obtained prescription drugs on the streets.
