DRAGOON
IN CELEBRATION OF EARTH DAY. the Amerind Foundation has invited Iroquois elders to share some of the teachings from the Iroquois and Haudenosaunee culture.
On April 16, Mohawk elders Jake and Judy Swamp will present a lecture sharing their cultural perspectives on environmental stewardship and peace. The Swamps have spent much of the last 30 years traveling in many parts of the world to talk about the teachings of their culture and caring for the Earth, according to the foundation.
The lecture, part of a collaboration with the American Indian Studies Program, will be held in the Harvill Building, Room 150, at 7 p.m. on the University of Arizona's Tucson campus. The event, which is part of the "Seven Generation Program," is free.
On April 18, the Amerind Foundation in Dragoon will host a forum at 2 p.m. on "Native Perspectives on Caring for the Earth." Forum participants will come from the Navajo (Dine), Tohono O'odham, Hopi, Apache, Yaqui and Mohawk nations.
The Seven Generations program is made possible through a grant from the Arizona Humanities Council.
OLD PEARCE
THE GHOST TOWN YARD SALE will be held in Old Pearce on Saturday, April 18. 7 a.m. until ? For more info on the yard sale, call at 520-826-1961. Stop by the Old Pearce Preservation Association's tables with baked goods and other items. All money raised will go to O.P.P.A.'s walking tour project. Membership applications will be available.
