CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING: The City of Sierra Vista Public Works Department has offered to expand their Christmas Tree recycling program to include all residents of Cochise County.

Cut trees will be accepted for FREE at all Cochise County Transfer Stations both Urban and Rural through Friday, Jan. 9. There will be a charge for any other waste brought in other than the trees. For more information about recycling, call the County Solid Waste Department at 803-3770.

If you have a live tree you would like to donate to the County, please call 803-3770 to make arrangements. These live trees will be planted at your neighboring transfer station or the Western Regional Landfill for beautification.

BAKING CONTEST: Adults 55 years of age and older are invited to share an original baked dessert recipe that brings up fond memories and inspires others to be creative in the kitchen. Splendido will feature finalists' entries on the contest website, www.splendidotucson.com/agingwellbakes, and a grand prize winner will receive a $500 gift certificate to Williams-Sonoma.

www.splendidotucson.com/agingwellbakes houses all of the Aging Well Bakes! official rules and instructions on submitting recipes. Submission dates are through Feb. 27.

BENSON

POPCORN RECYCLING: Now that the presents have all been unwrapped and the holiday season is winding down, thoughts turn to what to do with all the leftover packaging.

Many people may have received packages with packaging "peanuts" or "popcorn" as they're commonly known.

Rather than throw those pesky peanuts away and create more landfill, you can recycle them by dropping off your bag or box at the PostalAnnex+ located at 995 West 4th Street, Suite #G in Benson.

Recycling the peanuts is good for the environment and good for you as well. Bring in any quantity you've received and the PostalAnnex+ stores will issue you a $2 voucher good towards your next UPS or FedEx shipment.

To "Go Green" by recycling your used packaging materials, log on to www.AnnexBrands.com for the nearest location.

BOOKMOBILE

JANUARY SCHEDULE: Stop in at one of our 43 bookmobile stops throughout the county and find just what you need. For more information call the Cochise County Library District, at 800-231-1574 or 520-432-8930.
