Tina Scott is a third generation Arizonan, with ties to the Gila Valley and Willcox. Her mother, Mae Foutz Peterson grew up in Pima, and her father, Horold Alma Peterson in Glenbar. Tina's brother Wayne spent a good portion of his adult life in Willcox farming. Tina is a mother of seven, a grandmother to three (with one on the way), and she has been married to Richard Randolph (Randy) Scott for more than 32 years.
Art and writing have been Tina's area of special interest since childhood, and as a young girl, she used to make simple books, write stories and illustrate them. In high school, she filled her elective requirements with drawing and watercolor classes. She took an oil painting course from Mesa Arts and Recreation, and painted with oils until 1987. At that time, Tina put her paints away to concentrate on raising her family. When she couldn't stay away from art any longer, she began using watercolors as her artistic release.
After her youngest child started school, Tina started attending Chandler/Gilbert Community College, and earned an Associate's Degree, graduating with Highest Honors. Again, she used the elective classes to take Design 101, Drawing, and Life Drawing classes, as well as a variety of writing courses. During this time Tina also took watercolor classes from renowned artist, James Farrah, and recently took a workshop from watercolorist, Roland Lee in St. George, Utah.
She can't imagine going back to painting with oils because she enjoys the way watercolor paints interact with each other. She particularly enjoys painting children, animals and nature.
Tina writes for The Beehive Magazine, and occasionally writes for a magazine in Nevada. This past year, she enjoyed a short stint as columnist with Eastern Arizona Courier, "Simple Creations," on food, and "Art Therapy." You can view some of Tina's artwork for sale by visiting, The Little Art Gallery, at 832 N. Stadium Ave, Thatcher, or by visiting her website, www.writingartist.synthasite.com, or at www.hometowngallery.com.
