Area Toys 4 Tots campaign begins

The Willcox Department of Public Safety will again be hosting the Annual Willcox Toys 4 Tots campaign. Last year, thanks to the generosity of many, the Toys 4 Tots provided toys and other gifts to hundreds of children in our community who would have otherwise been unable to experience the joy of receiving gifts during the holiday season.

Please join us this year to help make a Christmas wish come true for the less fortunate children of Willcox by donating an unwrapped toy or by giving a monetary donation to the Willcox Department of Public Safety. Monetary donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Willcox Department of Public Safety, Attention Officer Mel Hammons or Officer Richard Majewski, 151 W. Maley, Willcox, AZ 85643. Toy donations will be collected at various business locations in Willcox in addition to the Willcox Department of Public Safety and the City Hall building at 101 S. Railroad Ave.

Applications for children ages 1 to 14 years of age for Toys 4 Tots can be picked up at the Willcox Department of Public Safety and must be returned by Dec. 15.

For additional information, contact Officer Mel Hammons or Officer Richard Majewski at (520) 384-4673, or Penney Bell at (520) 766-4231.

Writers Bloc speaker at library

Writers Bloc, a local Willcox writers group which meets monthly at the Willcox library, will have a special speaker, Lee Emery, on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. There is no charge, although an opportunity to donate is given during the morning. We welcome all who are interested in writing or publishing.

Lee Emory is a multi-published author who lives for variety in her books. Though published in other companies before opening her own publishing house in 2001, Lee is the hardworking owner of Treble Heart Books, MountainView Publishing, Sundowners and WhoooDoo Mysteries. Frequently called upon to speak on conference panels and teach workshops, there is little aspect of writing and publishing in which she is not intensely involved.

Educated in Washington State, she raised six children, worked full time and wrote two hours a day. She was a tech writer and editor for The Boeing Company for more than 25 years. Lee lives in Sierra Vista, with her very supportive husband, a retired law enforcement manager. Lee also owns, designed and maintains her commercial web site where she sells her authors' books and is publisher to 50 to 80 authors most of the time, many of whom have won literary awards. We are fortunate to have Lee Emery speak for us, so come and invite your friends. Come prepared with your questions, paper and pen.

The Willcox Chapter has assisted hundreds of families and individuals in our community over the past several years, and we would like to continue our service to those in need. Through the generosity of donations from local businesses, community organizations and individuals, our local Willcox Chapter will have the ability to provide assistance to those in need during the holiday season and through the cold winter months ahead.

Your contribution will help us help others. Please give to the Willcox Salvation Army. Remember, all contributions collected through the Local Chapter stay in our community to help your fellow citizens.

For those of you who have sent donations throughout the year, I would like to thank you for keeping our Chapter alive. You are the reason we are able to continue our work and we are sincerely grateful for your support.

To give to the Willcox Salvation Army, please send your check or money order to: The Willcox Salvation Army, 151 W. Maley Willcox, AZ 85643.
