On Friday, Oct. 31, Pauline Machiche, of the Willcox Child Protective Services was presented with the donations from the recent community drive and humanitarian project organized by members of the Willcox 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The collection included 59 beautiful blankets, with 36 of those hand-made, two quilted and 23 donated fleece blankets. Also included were 51 hygiene kits with toothbrush, toothpaste, comb/brush, Kleenex, hand wipes, books, crayons, etc., inside hand-made drawstring bags. Sixteen of those kits were designed for teenage children; the other 35 kits were geared toward younger children. CPS was also presented with 15 bags of donated baby diapers to top off the collection.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would like to thank all who helped make this community drive and humanitarian project such a success: the local participating stores, Alco, Dollar General, Food City, and Safeway, who allowed us to place collection buckets for donations; the Relief Society and Young Men/Young Women organizations of the Church, who assisted in the cutting and sewing of the blankets and drawstring bags; the Primary, consisting of children from ages 3-11, who helped with the assembly of the hygiene kits; and last, but certainly not least, all the members of the community who donated items for the drive.
We know your donations will help to comfort many of our local children in their time of need.
