By Jonathon Shacat/Wick Communications
BISBEE - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Willcox station arrested seven illegal immigrants after a smuggler led them on an off-road chase on Thursday.
Agents observed a suspicious white Chevrolet van merging onto Interstate 10 from Highway 90, according to a press release.
As they attempted to perform a license plate registration check, the van's driver applied the brakes and turned off the interstate and drove through an ADOT fence.
After a short distance, the van stopped and all occupants fled. Agents arrested seven illegal immigrants. An extensive search of the area for the driver was unsuccessful.
All individuals arrested were transported to the Wilcox station and removal proceedings were initiated. The van is being seized by Border Patrol.
