Published: Tuesday, June 10, 2008 7:38 PM CDT
DOUGLAS - Cochise County, Cochise College and Southeast Arizona Economic Development Group are co-sponsoring the first Solar Power Forum in Southeastern Arizona. The event will be held at the Douglas Campus of Cochise College on June 21.

"With over 300 sun-days a year, Cochise County is under intense interest from solar power producers and other sectors of the solar industry, and the time is right to make solar power a reality to the benefit of all the residents in Southeastern Arizona," says Larry Dempster, President of the Southeast Arizona Economic Development Group headquartered in Benson.

The forum will address the future energy needs of Arizona; large-scale solar power production technologies; solar plant siting; how governments and large businesses can economically use solar power; solar power for the farm, ranch and home; and financing solar technology with grants, loans and mortgages.

Participants include: Arizona State Senate President Tim Bee, Arizona Corporation Commissioner Bill Mundell; representatives from the wholesale solar power production industry, current power producers and county and city governments; consultants from the solar power industry; vendors of solar technology; business and professional leaders; and ranchers, farmers, homeowners, academics and students.

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Douglas campus of Cochise College, 4190 W. Highway 80. The campus is home to a one-acre solar field, constructed in partnership with Arizona Public Service that is used to heat and cool parts of the campus.

A $40 registration fee includes breakfast and lunch. To register online go to www.saedg.org. For information, contact George Scott at saedg@qwestoffice.net or 586-2330.
