Candace I. Roll was named the Willcox Art League March Artist of the Month.
Raised in Tucson with her brother and dogs, horses, lambs, cats and cattle, she had a very busy childhood with lots of outdoor activity. It taught her to appreciate the desert and clouds and the moods of the weather and light.
Her parents owned and operated a retail clothing store where she spent a lot of time learning about the business and what goes on there.
"High school got me interested in art. In college it became my major," Roll said. "After college, art majors who could weld, make bronze pieces or paint, were not in big demand - so back to selling clothing. When David and I were married, we formed our own sales company and went on the road as independent sales representatives. For the past eight years I have been handling inside sales at home, while David still works on the road," Roll said.
This has given her a chance to get back into art. She has been taking painting classes in Willcox, as well as some classes in computer and accounting to keep up with the business.
"I have been fortunate to be able to get back to something that I love and to keep working to try and make my art the best I can. I hope you enjoy my work," she said.
Her artwork is now on display in the Northern Cochise Health System hospital lobby between the hospital and the nursing home.
