BISBEE - A man who brandished a gun and was involved in a standoff with law enforcement officials in September was sentenced in Cochise County Superior Court to 3 1/2 years in prison on Friday.
Tony Kingman, 21, was charged with nine counts of aggravated assault, nine counts of endangerment, five counts of child endangerment and one count of disturbing the peace as a result of an incident on Sept. 30 in Willcox.
In a plea agreement, Kingman pleaded guilty to one count of committing aggravated assault using a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument and one count of disturbing the peace by recklessly handling, displaying or discharging a deadly weapon or instrument. The other charges were dismissed.
Judge Wallace Hoggatt sentenced Kingman to 3 1/2 years in prison for the aggravated assault count and one year for the disturbing the peace count, as stipulated in the plea agreement. But those terms will run concurrently.
Kingman was involved in an argument and he brandished a pellet pistol at some people at or near 210 S. Bisbee Ave. in Willcox, according to Charles George, the attorney who represented the defendant.
He was involved in a standoff with law enforcement officials for several hours before he eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.
Hoggatt also sentenced Kingman to 1 1/2 years in prison for violating probation on a 2006 charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. That term also will run concurrent with the 3 1/2-year sentence.
