Free movie at city library on Thursday
Thanks to a grant from the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, the Elsie S. Hogan Community Library will be showing an afternoon movie called "Common Ground" on Thursday, March 13, at 2 p.m. It will be shown in Spanish with English sub-titles.
Older Argentinean professor Fernando Robles (Federico Luppi) is stunned when the college at which he works implies that he should retire. Fernando and wife Lili (Mercedes Sampietro) try to be rational, but the stress begins to wear on their marriage. Adding to the couple's problems is the increasingly strained relationship between Fernando and his son Pedro (Pablo Rago), who left Argentina when the country -- and his family -- needed him most.
The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
Join us for a free movie at the library.

Red Cross Blood Drive in Willcox March 20
The American Red Cross Arizona Region Blood Services will hold a blood drive on Thursday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Willcox Elks Lodge 2131, 247 E. Stewart.
Donors can schedule an appointment for their donation by calling Pat Stark at (520) 384-2131.

Blood donors must be in good general health, at least 17 years old (with signed Red Cross parental consent form) and weigh at least 110 pounds. The Red Cross recommends that donors eat a small low-fat meal or snack and drink plenty of extra non-caffeinated fluids two to four hours before donating.
The entire donation process takes about an hour, and includes donor screening, a mini-physical exam, about 10 minutes for drawing a pint of blood, and post-donation refreshments. Donors can give whole blood every 56 days.

High Desert Book Fair Saturday in S.V.
This year's High Desert Book Fair is more than a mystery.
Formerly the High Desert Crimes Book Fair, it promises a wider selection of authors, genres and books - which is just what the organizers hoped for. The Cochise County Chapter of Sisters in Crime has presented the book fair the last three years, showcasing local and regional mystery and suspense authors. But this year, authors of all genres were invited to participate.
Twenty-two authors from around Arizona and the Southwest will gather on Saturday, March 15 at the Cochise College Library, in Sierra Vista.
The authors bring with them not just their books, but their life experiences and it's here participants will find wide-ranging diversity. They've won awards for writing, public speaking, teaching and just about everything in between. Their careers have spanned all fields, giving them unique perspectives from which to write. Many of them have traveled all over the world and it shows. The locales of their books range from Alaska to Vietnam, London to the deserts of Arizona.
Their professional backgrounds are as diverse and intriguing as the things about which they write. Their experiences include current and former bush pilot, Vietnam veteran, chauffeur, teachers, journalists, travel writers, columnists, professors, photographers, editors, attorney, speech writer, artist, singer, dancer, law enforcement officer and advertising executive.
This year's authors will be bringing historicals, westerns, young adult, poetry, inspirationals, non-fiction, self-help, and romance. And don't worry, there will be plenty of suspense and mystery novels as well.
For the first time, a writing group will also participate in the book fair. "Writers Express" is a group for anyone desiring to explore the craft of writing, novice writers to published authors. The group meets in Sierra Vista and discusses all aspects of writing popular fiction.
The Cochise County Chapter of Sisters in Crime was formed in 2004 by Rebecca Dahlke. As a new group, it quickly established itself in several ways. As in past years, Wick Communications, the Sierra Vista Friends of the Library and Sisters in Crime is sponsoring the event.
The group is selling raffle tickets with chances to win gift baskets and books.
The High Desert Book Fair is being held at the Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus Library, Sierra Vista, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
