The 26th Annual Christmas Apple Festival is coming to the Willcox Community Center Friday and Saturday.

This year, the Willcox Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is putting "the apple back into the festival" by hosting a judged cooking and baking with apples contest. Categories will include pies/pastries, cookies, cakes, muffins/breads, and miscellaneous.

If you have a favorite apple recipe and would like to participate, call the Chamber at (520) 384-2272, and enter your recipe.

Entries need to be at the Community Center between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, for judging.

Also featured this year is a bazaar focusing on vendors with handcrafted arts and crafts, raffles and drawings for door prizes throughout the day.

The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, and again from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the Annual Tree Lighting and Night Lighted Parade kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Community Center.

It will feature "an array of festive lighted entries and Santa himself will be there," along with Rex Allen Jr. as Grand Marshal.

The parade will travel down Stewart Street to Railroad Avenue.

There are four divisions in the parade this year and entry is open to anyone.

"You can build a float, decorate a car or truck, push a stroller, ride a bike or (tricycle), ride a horse, walk alone, or march as a group," says Parade Chairman Ben Martin, adding that "you must have some kind of lights."

Santa arrives in Willcox in the parade and will give candy canes to children who visit him. A picture of your child with Santa will be available at a small cost.

There will be free hot dogs for the children again this year, courtesy of Rodney's, and free hot cocoa and hot cider for everybody.

After the parade, there will be a tree lighting ceremony in Railroad Park including a new 10-foot city tree this year.

"Railroad and Windmill Parks will again be lighted with more lights than ever," Martin said.

Information and parade entry forms are available at the Chamber at (520) 384-2272 or from Ben Martin (520) 384-4417.

The parade will stage on Austin Boulevard at the Community Center at 5 p.m.
