Willcox competitors fare well at Arizona Junior Rodeo State

The Arizona Junior Rodeo Association held it's State Finals on August 4, 5, & 6, at the Apache Gold Casino in San Carlos Arizona.
The best of the best throughout the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada competed during the three-day event.
Willcox contestants made their mark, bringing home a truck load of prizes. The 13-15 age group was dominated by Savanah Todd (daughter of Larry and Lori Todd) and Tyler Deitering (son of Mike and Penney Bell). Together the two brought home six championship saddles.
Savanah finished as the state champion in the events of barrel racing, goat tying, ribbon roping and received the prestigious title of All Around Cowgirl.
Tyler won the championship tie down saddle and also was the winner of the All Around Cowboy saddle.
Kimberly Smith (daughter of Jack & Jan Kortsen) was the champion of the breakaway roping for the B Finals. Tyler Smith, Zane Webster, and Mackenzie Martin were also trophy buckle winners at the finals.
"We are very proud of our young cowboys and cowgirls from Willcox. These kids are proof that our western heritage is still alive and going strong," said Penney Bell.
"There are places like Queen Creek where there are a lot of outstanding kids. But for a small town like Willcox, we really stood out for having so many kids that did so well," she said.
