Old habits may have to be broken Monday when Exit 340 and Interstate 10 are closed to motorists completely at certain hours .

Crews will be placing concrete girders for the Fort Grant overpass, which will entail bringing in two large cranes and increased construction personnel and vehicles, said Kimberly Cummings, spokeswoman for the Arizona Department of Transportation. "Numerous detours and closures will be in effect Monday, June 19 through Wednesday, June 21."

On Monday and Tuesday, from 7 a.m until 9 p.m., only one lane will be open for interstate travelers. Speed will be reduced to 55 mph., Cummings said.

Also on Monday night and Tuesday night, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next mornings, the Fort Grant Road overpass will be closed completely.

"Motorists may use Exit 336, Airport Road, Old Stewart Road or Exit 344 as alternate routes to cross the interstate. Watch for detour signage," she said.

Also both nights, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., I-10 will be closed at the Fort Grant exit. Traffic will be detoured off and on the interstate via the exit 340 ramps, she said.

On Wednesday, June 21, from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., only one lane on east and westbound I-10 will be open near exit 340, and speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph.

"Business access along Fort Grant Road and Rex Allen Drive at the I-10 interchange, will be open throughout construction," Cummings said.

The schedule may change due to inclement weather or mechanical failure, she said. Further information, call ADOT's toll-free hotline at 1-800-974-9460.
