Permit prices: City ups building fees
By CAROL BROEDER/Arizona Range News
The City of Willcox unanimously adopted a new fee schedule for planning and building services at its Jan. 4 meeting.
"It is estimated that building permits and planning review revenues will increase significantly to cover building inspections, plan reviews, and other related costs to the city, City Manager Darol Cridlebaugh told the council. "Major new developments are anticipated within the next five years."
Permits are required "to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system regulated by code," the resolution states.
Failure to obtain the permits will result in the permit fees being doubled.
A permit expires 180 days after it is issued, but the building official may grant a one-time extension of 180 days for just cause, if the applicant makes a request in writing.
The new, seven-page schedule includes fees for construction, sign permit, planning and zoning, and grading.
For example, for a project valued from $50,001 to $100,000, the construction fee is $640.50 for the first $50,000, plus $7 for each additional $1,000.
For a project valued from $100,001 to $500,000, the construction fee is $990.50 for the first $100,000, plus $5.50 for each additional $1,000.
Other fees include $50 each for housing inspections (no fee for investigating complaints), $50 each for a demolition permit, and $40 per hour to review revisions to previously-approved plans.
